Wish Upon a Star launching at the Cork Comic Expo

Wish Upon a Star, our brand new comic anthology exploring far-future fairy tales, launches on April 12th at the 4th Cork Comic Expo in Mahon Point Shopping Centre.

The book collects adaptations of stories like Peter Pan, Red Riding Hood, 1001 Nights, Beauty and the Beast, and The Frog Prince. The creators used advanced technology, space travel and more to bring new life to old tales. We’re excited to return to the Cork Comic Expo, organised by Will Sliney and Big Bang Comics, and to be able to launch a new book at the event.

Cork and Limit Break Comics

Our first venture to Cork as a collective began before we had a name, when Paul and Gareth launched Frankie’s Big Book of Assassination – the last Meouch zine that helped them to find the voice and tone of the series. On the way back from that Cork Comic Expo in 2018, the idea for Life & Death was cemented. The energy and enthusiasm of the Cork Comic Expo effectively gave Limit Break its two launch titles for July that same year. (Somewhere in the months between, we agreed on a name.)

Irish comics has long had a home in Cork. While Paul was ingraining himself in the Dublin scene, Gary was involved with the Cork Comic Creators. The activities in each city – the two capitals, if rumours are to be believed – were informed and developed by passionate creators, and gave the locals their own spaces to breathe and to grow as artists.

The Cork Comic Expo is the biggest single expression of the city’s relationship with the comics. Will Sliney manages to draw a crowd all by himself, and that’s without getting the other pros involved! For the budding creators in Cork, and those who travel for the show, it’s an opportunity to meet an audience whose love for comics has made Sliney a local celebrity. (And that was before he was on the television!)

Wish Upon a Star

Wish Upon a Star will collect 21 short stories, from creators from all over the world. From the Limit Break collective, you can catch adaptations of Peter Pan, Red Riding Hood, Godfather Death, and The King With Donkey’s Ears.
