Wish Upon a Star is fully funded!
As of Sunday evening, Wish Upon a Star is fully funded on Kickstarter! It came down to the wire, but we managed to cross the line with the thanks of some incredibly enthusiastic supporters.
For those who might have missed it, we have Late Pledges active. These enable you to back the book and add rewards even after the Kickstarter has ended, but note that there are deadline for when you can get your hands on different things. In order of closing:
- Pins and course enrolment finish on 24 November
- Books and other paper products finish at the end of January
- Digital products finish at the end of February
The plan is to launch at Dublin Comic Con in March 2025, all things going as intended. We’ll keep you updated on that, and give you an idea of when any of the rewards become available outside of the Kickstarter.
The Nth Panel Grid
In case you missed our interview series with our creators on The Nth Panel Grid, you can catch up via Spotify or by going to the posts on our site for the Acast embeds.
We’re super excited to get to make this book, and the podcast is a fun way to get to know the creators in a way that we’ve never been able to manage before. Paul and Gary might even bully each other into an episode about their respective stories in the near future! (As a team, the plan was to put the contributors first!)
An Introduction to Writing Comics – Course details
With the enrolment deadline for the course a little over a month away, here’s a quick look at what’s involved in the course stolen from Paul’s socials.
The course is for 18+ only, purely for child protective purposes, and will start in January 2025. There’s a lot of time for discussion, for discovery, and for getting to know your fellow participants. It’ll be run through Zoom, with a supporting Discord (in lieu of an e-learning platform) for conversation and link-sharing.
What’s next for Wish Upon a Star?
Standard procedure: Kickstarter will begin trying to charge the cards that pledges were made with. In a couple of weeks, the money will come through to us. Here’s what the rest of the process looks like:
- Surveys to collect backer info for fulfilment will go out once Kickstarter have processed everything
- The teams will continue their comics – many of them have already begun!
- We’re looking at going to print in late January/early February
- We’re planning to launch the book in March
That’s a very condensed look at things. While the teams are working away, we’ll be finishing work on the 5e supplement and putting together the free ebook of the original stories. We’ve also got the small matter of Thought Bubble to look forward to! We’ll give that its own post a little closer to the time, but we’re dying to get back to the show.
In January, Paul will begin the process of putting the book together for print, which will include a conversation about the running order of the stories. We’re looking forward to the challenge of balancing tone with art styles. (Paul spoke to a few of the contributors about it on The Nth Panel Grid. It looks like chaos.)
We’ll keep you apprised of further developments, but for a while we’ll be prioritising Kickstarter updates for sneak peeks. You can also subscribe to our newsletter to get some behind the scenes info!
