Wish Upon a Star Returning to Kickstarter in September

Irish comic collective Limit Break Comics are funding their latest anthology on Kickstarter in September.

Wish Upon a Star collects 4-page comics from 22 teams of creators from all over the world, reimagining fairy tale stories through the lens of far future science fiction. The campaign launches on 18 September 2024, with the pre-launch sign-ups open today. It seeks to raise €15,000 by 20 October 2024, to pay creators and fund the first print run.

Wish Upon a Star is the fourth anthology from Limit Break Comics, following in the success of Turning Roads, Down Below and Fractured Realms. The series is edited by Paul Carroll and Gary Moloney (since Down Below), using comics as a means to explore global mythologies and literary genres.

The book comes with cover art by Nate Stockman & Dee Cunniffe, following cover contributions by Declan Shalvey, Stephen Mooney & Triona Farrell, and Nick Roche & JP Jordan.

Editor Paul Carroll says, “These books have always been special to me, but none of them carry as much hope as Wish Upon a Star. Fairy tales as a form of modern mythology seek to communicate challenges and changes. Instead of a warning god, we have a fairy godmother. Instead of a minotaur in a labyrinth, we have a wolf in the forest. We are taught not to lie and not to let our inner child go away. We are made to believe in true love and in doing the right thing.

A book like Wish Upon a Star comes back at a time when honesty and courage are needed most, ahead of a dark wood of twisting lies and an uncertain future. This is our second star to the right.”

Wish Upon a Star will be accompanied by a number of other rewards on Kickstarter, including a collection of the original fairy tales, art prints and a brand new DnD 5e compatible supplement. Follow the campaign on Kickstarter to be alerted when it goes live.
