Press Release: Irish Comic Collective Limit Break Comics Launches Kickstarter for Eco-Horror Anthology
Dublin, 01 May 2025 – Irish Comic Collective Limit Break Comics today launched the Kickstarter for its fifth anthology, Bump in the Night, an eco-horror collection focusing on cryptids.
Limit Break Comics has today launched the Kickstarter for its fifth comic anthology, Bump in the Night. He anthology combines an eco-horror approach to narrative with well-known cryptids, focusing on nature vs society. The anthology is edited by Paul Carroll, and is intended to launch in November 2025 at Thought Bubble in Yorkshire.
The anthology collects the work of over 40 creators from around the world, with cryptids to match the international draw of the talent inside. The collective are joined by Eoin Coveney for the cover art, to be revealed during the campaign.

The Kickstarter campaign seeks to raise €15,000 in the month of May to fund the production of the book. Alongside digital and physical copies of Bump in the Night and Limit Break’s other myth-inspired anthologies, backers can choose from stickers, postcards, prints, an enamel pin and an online comic writing course. The print artists for the Kickstarter are Gareth Luby & John McGuinness, Donna Black, and Lane Lloyd.
This will be Carroll’s fifth anthology with Limit Break Comics, launching a series of myth-inspired books with the collective’s 2021 title, Turning Roads. Following an initial trilogy of classic folklore books, the Editor turned towards modern mythology for inspiration. Bump in the Night follows Wish Upon a Star, which funded in 2024 and launched at the Cork Comic Expo in Spring 2025.

Reward Gallery for Kickstarter Campaign
The Kickstarter campaign includes a combination of physical and digital rewards, some of them as tiers and others as add-ons.
Stickers
The stickers for the campaign focus on cryptids across the board, and on a couple of specific fan-favourites. The Mothman design carries some levity with it in what is otherwise a serious anthology. The other designs focus on the impact of humankind on nature and how we deal with our world.

Postcards – new for Kickstarter!
A new tier for the myth anthologies, the postcard set brings backers around the world to the homes of cryptids.

Kickstarter Prints
The print artists for the book are tasked with choosing their own cryptids and illustrating them in their own style. Each of this year’s artists have featured on campaigns in the past.
Donna Black’s Jersey Devil

Still to come – Gareth Luby & John McGuinness are teaming up in what has become a trend for the art-duo, and Lane Lloyd returns bringing some local flare to their choice of cryptid!
Enamel Pin
It wouldn’t be a Limit Break Kickstarter without an enamel pin! The design for this year’s campaign focuses on Mothman. (You can spot the trend!)

Comic Writing Course
Returning to Kickstarter is Paul Carroll’s comic writing course, to be delivered online over a six-week period. The course will guide participants through the writing of comics, with the end-goal in mind of having them produce their own script.
The course covers:
- Storytelling and comics basics
- Understanding layouts as a writer
- Getting started as a creator
- The practice of pitches
- Scripting, and
- Direct participant engagement with scripts
Paul previously ran a similar course in the Irish Writers Centre in Dublin.
Add-ons for the Kickstarter Campaign
Kickstarter offers backers the chance to personalise their pledges. We have a lot of add-ons available as a collective, including single-issue comics, anthologies, bundles of books, novels, and enamel pins.

The first four anthologies are available separately or as a bundle, in both physical and digital formats.

Our action-adventure books include a chance to pre-order Meouch #3 – perfect for international backers who might not get to see it at conventions!

We’re no stranger to short stories! Our collections cross genres.

Three very-specifically horror books available include Paul’s latest books: The Ties That Bind and The Dark House, Volume One.

The Plexus books are returning again. Issue two includes a short that Paul worked on with Donna Black!

Before he wrote comics, Paul was purely a prose fiction author. His series, The Black Pages, is now available as add-ons on Kickstarter for the first time!
